Helland Silo System since 1965

The family business Helland Silo System at Ålgård in Gjesdal municipality in Rogaland produces perhaps the country's best-known silo.

The founder Ingolv Helland began producing fully welded steel silos in a sixty square meter basement room in his home on Ålgård in 1965, as a response to feed producers’ change from deliveries in 50 kilo bags to bulk deliveries from cars. Since then, the Norwegian silo producer has delivered several thousand concentrate silos to farmers all over Norway.

At the beginning of the 70s, Helland switched to producing bolted silos on self-developed production machines, which resulted in the silo model 300S.

Ingolv Helland was concerned that the products should be of high quality and aesthetically pleasing. “Helland” was supposed to be a stamp of quality, something that governs the company to this day.

Beyond the 80s and 90s, Helland Silo System expanded further and invested in both agriculture, aquaculture and industry. The product range increased and various transport solutions were also produced for filling and emptying the silos. The company had a maximum of 18 employees during this period.

In 2019, a new chapter in the company’s history began when the second generation of Helland in Harry Kenneth Helland transferred the company to his sons Inge Stian, Karl and Hans Andreas.

In recent years, automation of the production processes has been an important part of the development in the silo company at Ålgård in Gjesdal municipality. The work is made more efficient through new production machines and lines, and although agriculture is still in a special position, aquaculture is sailing up. Feed handling products for the farming industry have gained a greater place in the company and open the doors to large, international markets.
